Opill is Now Available Over The Counter

You don't need a prescription to use it.

Good news! A birth control pill (Opill) is now available for sale over-the-counter. That means you can buy it without a prescription. You can get the pill right off the shelf at the drug store and other retail locations. Here’s what you need to know about Opill:

What is it? Opill (a brand of mini-pill) is a progestin-only birth control pill and is the first daily oral contraceptive pill to be available over-the-counter (OTC). That means you don’t need a prescription to get it.

How much does it cost? The Opill has a suggested retail price of $19.99 for a one-month supply and $49.99 for a three-month supply. However, each retailer can set their own price.

Where can I get it? Opill will be available at most major pharmacies and other retail locations. You will be able to find it soon in drugstores, grocery stores, convenience stores, and online.

Are all birth control pills available OTC? No. Only Opill has been approved for sale over the counter.

Why do we need an over-the-counter birth control pill? Getting your birth control pills OTC means you can start and stop using them on your own, allowing you to prevent pregnancy on your own terms. Getting the pill OTC could also save you time and money since you don’t have to see a doctor or get a prescription to get them.

Remember, there are many different methods of birth control available. Use the method that works for you.
